Aleda Winsman Carlson, 94, formally of Elmira, New York, died on September 7, 2012 at the Hospicare residence in Ithaca. Born in Gloversville, New York, Aleda was the daughter of the late Christopher and Mildred Winsman. She graduated from Gloversville High School in 1936 and immediately went to work at Woolworth's candy counter where she met her future husband, Edward.Aleda had many talents including playing the piano and singing for many years in the Bethany Lutheran Church Choir. She was an excellent seamstress and especially enjoyed doing needlework. Her family members are the happy recipients of her work. She volunteered for many years as her daughters' Girl Scout leader and later became a field director for the Seven Lakes Council of the Girl Scouts of America, retiring in 1980.Aleda is survived by her children, Gary (Rita) Carlson of Ithaca, Phyllis (Bill) Williams of Cortland, and Jo Ann (Robert) Bennett of Telford, PA; nine grandchildren, Michelle (Jon) Goldberg, Jacki (Jeff) Boulter, Jen (Paul) Mutolo, Mark Carlson, Seth (Helen) Williams, Chris (Jen) Williams, Scott Williams, Jessica (Gilbert) Alderete, and Nicole Bennett; and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Edward in 1975, her brother Richard Winsman and her grandson Robert C. Bennett.A memorial service will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, 256 S. Walnut Street, Elmira, New York on September 15th at 11:00 a.m. Please join the family for lunch following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.
