Age 84, of Elmira, NY went home to be with his Lord surrounded by his family Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility.Ed was born in Van Etten, NY, the son of the late Lester and Catherine (Howden) Sears on February 4, 1922.Ed is survived by his wife of sixty years, Elizabeth (Parke) Sears of Elmira, NY; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Lester (Heather) Sears of Queensburg, NY; James Zolla (Gail) Sears of Nanaimo, BC Canada; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary (John) Harwoodof Latham, NY, Laura Catherine (Harry) Eaton of Cortland, NY; grandchildren, Matthew Sears, Eric and Kevin Sears, David and Brian Harwood; sister-in-law, Norma Sears of Horseheads, NY; and many nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Glenn Sears.Ed was a U.S. Air Force Veteran in the South Pacific Theatre.Shortly after discharge from serving his country, he wed his best friend and love, Betty.Together they raised a wonderful family.He was a devoted member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church.He worked at Remington-Rand, Westinghouse, and Hardinge Bros.He enjoyed many types of music, playing golf, and was a very devoted husband, father, and grandfather.A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 380 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY 14904 with a fellowship following. Memorial Donations may be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church. The family also wishes to thank all of the nursing staff of the Chemung County Nursing Facility for their dedicated care and service.
