Ann Kain, age 78 of Elmira, NY passed away on June 12, 2009 after an extended battle with cancer. Prior to her illness Ann was very active in her local community as a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, the Soup Kitchen, Planned Parenthood and Tanglewood Nature Center. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She took great pride and pleasure in her family and made every birthday, holiday and family gathering truly special. She was known for her abundant enthusiasm to muster up the perfect gift, recipe or decoration to express her unending love and devotion of friends and especially family. Ann was extremely creative and artistic and enjoyed a multitude of crafts and hobbies. She and her husband Fred labored many years to build each of their granddaughters a magnificent doll house. Ann loved the outdoors and until her illness she and Fred could be seen trekking across hills in the area on their cross country skis. She loved sports, especially tennis and golf and she always had a very determined and competitive spirit. Ann loved dogs, especially her springer spaniels. Ann is survived by Fred, her loving husband of 56 years, her adoring children and 7 grandchildren including Peter Kain and family of Norwich, NY, David Kain and family of Seneca Falls, NY, Tim Kain and family of Kennebunk, ME and Sue Hyde and family of Hoosick Falls, NY and her brother Bob Brandis and sister in-law Janet and extended family of Johnstown, NY. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Ann's life at Bethany Lutheran Church, 256 South Walnut St., Elmira, NY in a memorial service on Monday, June 15th at 11 AM. Pastor Abigail Zang-Hoffman to officiate.
