Ardell W. Shaw ArtieAge 71 passed away on February 19, 2008 at Bath VA Hospital, Artie was born April 13, 1936 and is survived by daughter, Ellen Shaw-Smith, son in-law Dr. Robert Smith and grandchildren Ryan and Skye Smith. He is also survived by close and loyal brother Harry L. Shaw, and sisters Lynne Campbell, and Loraine (Earl) Dugger, as well as many, nieces and nephews, including close niece, Kim A. Bennett, and nephews Charles Bennett and Richard Mast. Ardell was a retired Army Sargent First Class, who served during the Korean War and Four Tours of Duty in Vietnam.He received numerous accommodations, including The Bronze Star with Three Oak Clusters, and the National Defense Service Medal with Ten Oak Clusters. Artie volunteered tirelessly for over 30 years in service of veterans and others in need.He was instrumental in beginning the DAV Transportation Program from Elmira to the Bath VA Hospital. He also opened the first clothing donation center at the same facility. His extensive volunteer commitment won him the George H. Seal National DAV Volunteer Award. He was also honored for his volunteer work for the Red Cross and past president of the Southport Coin Association. Artie served many years as a loyal member of Masonic Order Union-Cooley Lodge, Waverly Masonic War Veterans Post #45 and Corning Consistory. He was the first person to receive the New York Masonic War Veterans Award.Those wishing may call at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Southport on Saturday February 23, 2008 from 11:00 Am to 1:00 PM with Funeral Service to honor Ardell there at 1:00 PM. Followed by a grave side service at Woodlawn National with Full Military Honors accorded at the cemetery. There will be a Memorial Service held Sunday February 24, 2008 at 1:00 PM at The Chapel at the Bath VA, Bath NY.
