Age 93, was born December 2, 1917 in Waverly, NY. She graduated from Waverly High School in 1936. Camille worked in Elmira at Iszard's photo studio, Winchester Optical, Dr. Donald Miller's dental office, Chemung County Board of Elections as Republican Election Commissioner and founded the Republican Women's Club-the GOPhers. She was predeceased by her husband, James, her parents, Bessie and George Giroux, her brothers, George, Kenny and Jack Giroux and her sister, Jeanne Vogel. She is survived by three daughters and two sons: Ann (Hal) Brink of Penn Yan, NY; Richard (Mary Lou) of Pinehurst, NC; Linda Swarthout of Elmira; Robert (Deborah) of Fairport, NY; Betty Steere of Elmira. She is survived by ten grandchildren: Carey (Bruce) Beckwith, Jim (Chris Lioci) Brink, Jeff Steere, Kelley (Bill) Onesti, Elliot (Sara Barker) Swarthout, Scott (Sasha Reed) Swarthout, Sarah Steere, Rachel Steere, Hannah Steere and Laura Steere. She is also survived by her great grandchildren: Jeremy and Camille Beckwith, Noah Brink, Aidan and Morgan Swarthout, Ethan, Brady and Emily Onesti and Luca and Siena Burgess. She is survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Phyllis Steere of Jamestown, NY and many nieces and nephews. Camille loved her family and spending time with them every weekend at her cottage on Seneca Lake. She also had a passion for cooking, oil and watercolor painting, flowers, playing bridge or any other card game, reading and lemon meringue pie. She was a past member of the Elmira Art Club, Hedding Methodist Church, the Home Service of the Red Cross and she served as leader of a Cub Scout pack and Girl Scout Troop. A private memorial service for the immediate family will be held at a later date. Those wishing may remember Camille with a donation to the Steele Memorial Library.
