Beatrice S. Griffis

Age 90, of Horseheads, NY passed away on Monday, November 1, 2004 at Bethany Courtyards. Bea was born May 13, 1914 in Elmira, NY the daughter of the late Bert and Lottie (Updyke) Benson. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Griffis; siblings, Delbert Benson, Sarah Layton, Earl Benson, Jean Vockroth and Louise Wich. Bea is survived by her loving family: daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and John Carpenter of Horseheads, NY; Gail and Thomas Ferry of Pequannock, NJ; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Rebecca (David) Romig of Elmira, NY; Brett Christian of Elmira, NY; Wendy (Bruce) Dower and children, Rachel, Bethany and Jonathan Dower all of Littleton, CO; Beth Ann (Benny) Valle and son, Benjamin Valle of Pompton Lakes, NJ; Thomas (Laura) Ferry and children, Nicole and Thomas Ferry all of Randolph, NJ; John Ferry of Pequannock, NJ; sister, Bernice Secunda of Irvine, CA; along with several nieces and nephews. Bea worked in retailing for many years at Sheehan?s and The Gorton Coy in Elmira, NY and after retirement volunteered at the Arnot Odgen Medical Center for a number of years. Bea enjoyed her family, friends and Florida vacations. Her family was very blest to have such a loving, devoted, unselfish mother and grandmother and will miss her sweetness and beautiful smile. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 from 11:30 to 1:30 PM. Funeral Services celebrating Bea?s life will follow the visitation. (1:30 PM) Bruce Dower will officiate. Interment will take place in the Woodlawn Cemetery following the services.
