Age 97, formerly of Elmira NY and South Bend IN, passed from this life on February 1, 2011 at Lehigh Center in Macungie,PA. Bea, along with her twin brother Earl, was born to Earl H. and Anna Bozorth Getkin on January 9, 1914 in Elmira. Bea graduated from Southside High School and worked for Eclipse Machine in Elmira Heights. She married E. Elliott Hood on October 5, 1940 at Grace Church. In 1975 Bea and Elliott moved to South Bend, IN when Elliott was transferred. Since Elliott's passing in 2004, Bea has lived in Macungie, PA. Bea is predeceased by her husband, her twin brother Earl and sister-in-law Polly Getkin, sisters-in-law Dorothy and Betty Jane Hood, and infant daughter Constance. Bea is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Warren "Rusty" and Joan Hood of Macungie PA and their children Michael and Jeffrey Hood and Tracy (Ryan) Gallagher. She is also survived by her daughter Nancy Hood Paddock of Horseheads and her children R. Daniel (Dr. Sarah) Paddock and Marianna (Brian) Harkness.Four great-grandchildren also survive; Lillian Gallagher, Ronan Paddock, and Anthony and Keegan Harkness.Bea'sniece, Carolyn (Frank) Donahue of Vermont, also survives. Bea was a communicant of Grace Episcopal Church in Elmira and St. Michael's Episcopal Church in South Bend. Bea loved to play the piano for her own, her children and grandchildren's enjoyment. She and Elliott played Bridge for many years. Bea was known as the "Mint Lady" by her South Bend neighborhood children for passing out candy to them on a weekly basis. She also tended an awesome vegetable garden for many years. At Bea's request, there will be no calling hours. Her funeral will be held at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira/Southportat 1:30 pm on Tuesday, February 8th with Reverend FatherDonald Matthews officiating. Bea will be laid to rest in the Hood family plot at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
