Age 94, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2005, a resident of the Hill Top Retirement Community in Johnson City, and formerly of Elmira. Bessie was the loving wife of the late William Charles Bergh and the daughter of the late Wesley and Jennie Dennis Stoker. She was born in Scipio, NY on September 16, 1911 and grew up in Auburn, NY, and resided on Maple Street. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she married her late husband, William Charles Bergh on August 15, 1933. Bessie is survived by her son, Gary D. (Linda) Bergh of Syracuse, NY; daughter, Nancy (Frank) Tetz of Skillman, NJ; 6 grandchildren, Steven, William, Lucinda, and Barbara Tetz; David Bergh, and Susan Bergh McNulty; several nieces and nephews.Family and friends are invited to call at the Centenary United Methodist Church, 424 S. Main Street, Elmira, NY 14904 on Friday, December 9th, 2005 from 10 to 11 am. Memorial services will be held at the conclusion of the calling hour at 11 am. The Reverend Joseph Kim will officiate. At 3:30 pm there will be a Memorial Service held in the Hilltop Retirement Community, Johnson City, NY, with Rev. Lee Harding officiating.Bessie will be buried next to her late husband, William, in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira, NY, at the convenience of the family.Bessie was a devoted 4th grade school teacher in the Elmira City School District for 15 years. She was a lifetime member of the Retired Teachers Association of New York State, Bethany Village Auxiliary, RSVP, a longtime member of the Centenary United Methodist Church, an active member of the Women?s Society, nursery teacher (Sunday School), youth group advisor, Mission Committee, and an honorary life member of the Silver Bay Association on Lake George, where she and her husband worked as volunteers for 10 years.Bessie was also a devoted supporter of Habitat for Humanity.
