Harper - Carlton D. Harper, Sr., 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Bampa’s House in Corning, NY. He was born April 24, 1937 in Elmira, NY. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Irene Harper; his sisters, Shirley Wood and Beverly Gotham; and his wife, Linda M. Harper.
Carl led a full, active life. His passions included camping, home improvement projects, and working on classic cars. He was happiest when he was on or near the water. Music was a constant presence throughout his life. He was a charter member of the Common Time Choral Group, a member of Mark Twain Barbershop Chorus, and the Southern Tier Barbershop Chorus, as well as New Beginnings United Methodist Church Chancel Choir and Bell Choir.
Carl worked as a mechanic at Clute Ford and the Horseheads School District Bus Garage; and later retired from Chemung County Transit.
Carl is survived by his wife, Darlene Precit-Harper; his son Carl Harper Jr. and his wife Lisa J.; his daughter Beverly Bellows and her husband Terry; his son Mike Harper and his wife Karen; his daughter Debbie Rohde; his son Dan Harper; his daughter Michelle Hubbard and her husband Stacey; and his daughter Lisa M. Harper. He is also survived by his niece Rorie Gotham and nephews, Randy Gotham, Greg Gotham, and Gary Gotham; as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends are welcome to join the family in a celebration of Carl’s life, August 4, 2023 at New Beginnings United Methodist Church, 300 E. Miller Street, Elmira, NY 14904. Calling hours are 4-5pm with the service following at 5pm. The family will have a private interment at Rural Home Cemetery.
