March 25, 1922 — January 27, 2011

Age 88,passed away Thursday, January 27, 2011 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility following a brief illness.He was born March 22, 1922 in Exeter, PA and raised in West Wyoming, PA.He proudly served his country and was recipient of the Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal, American Area Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.Carmen received a B.S. degree in Music Education from the State College of Mansfield and a Masters' degree of Education from Penn State College. He was an accomplished musician, principal cellist for the Elmira Symphony and orchestra director/string instructor for the Elmira City School district for 18 years, retiring in 1984. Carmen was predeceased by his parents Marino and Concetta Cavuto, a sister Kathleen Cavuto and brother-in-law Francis "Junior" Vroman. He is survived by wife Joan Vroman, his best friend and the love of his life. They were married August 6, 1949.Carmen is also survived by dear friends Richard and Beverly Moriarty, Susan Padgett and Joanne Skrodenis, brother-in-law Leslie Vroman, sister-in-law Ellen Vroman, niece Sheri Vroman Rainear and nephew Scott Vroman.Calling hours are 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.Monday, February 7, 2011 at Olthof's Funeral home.The family will provide flowers.In memory of Carmen, memorial donations may be made to the SPCA in honor of his love for animals, envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Arbon Cemetery, Blossburg, PA at the convenience of the family. A 'Candle of Remembrance' may be left for the family in obituaries atwww.olthof.com
