Age 87, of 48 Colonial Drive Horseheads, NY passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2003 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was born March 27, 1916 in Bentley Creek, PA the son of the late Rufus and Ida (Chase) Barnes. He married Luana Riker March 15, 1939 and they have enjoyed 64 wonderful years of life and love together. He is survived by his loving wife, Luana; beloved children; Dennis (Bonnie) Barnes of Pine City, NY; Carol (Ron) Collins of Wellsburg, NY; Janet Cleveland of Elmira, NY; Gary (Chris) Barnes of Dearborn, MI; brother, Paul; sisters, Fanny and Doris; along with 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. ?Dick?, as he was affectionately known was a lifetime charter member of the Southport Volunteer Fire Department and was a recipient of his 50-year pin. He was a Veteran of the US Army serving proudly during WW II. Dick was a former member of the Cashmere Grotto, had over 50 years with the Union Cooley Lodge # 95 F & AM and was a member of the American Legion Bentley Trumble Post in Horseheads, NY. He retired from the Arnot Ogden Medical Center after several years of dedicated service as a carpenter. He was also proud to serve the carpenter?s union. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY on Wednesday, October 22, 2003 from 6 to 8 PM. Funeral services celebrating Dick?s life will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours. (8:00 PM) The Reverend Laurie Greenlaw will officiate. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in the Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to the Southport Volunteer Fire Department, 1001 Carl Street, Elmira, NY 14904.
