Charles E. Swartwood

Was born April 1, 1927 in Tioga, NY the son of the late Arthur and Helena (Padgett) Swartwood, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at St. Joseph's Hospital at the age of 83. His sister, Thelma Hyde and brother, Homer Swartwood predeceased him. Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Nina, who he has enjoyed 62 wonderful years of life and love with; beloved children, Charles (Grace) Swartwood, Mary (Craig) Fazenbaker, David (Susan) Swartwood, Patti (Ken) Fraser and Nina (Cliff) Horton; 12 much loved grandchildren, 16 adored great grandchildren, and 1 precious great great granddaughter; sister, Hazel Cermak; along with several nieces and nephews. Charlie was a Veteran of the US Navy, proudly serving his country during WW II. In 1960, he was named Father of the Year in his hometown of Owego. He retired from St. Joseph's Hospital after 35 dedicated years. Charlie was a faithful member of Faith Tabernacle and lived his life as a testimony to the "Amazing Grace" of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Family and friends are invited to gather at Faith Tabernacle 155 Lenox Ave. Horseheads, NY 14845 on Friday, July 16, 2010 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. The Chemung County Veterans Honor Squad will accord Mr. Swartwood military honors at the church following the visitation at 6 PM. A celebration of Charlie's life will follow the military service with his sons, Reverend Charles Swartwood and Reverend David Swartwood honoring their father's life. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Olthof Funeral home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY. A 'Candle of Remembrance' may be left for his family in obituaries atwww.olthof.com.
