Woodruff, Charles Alex age 84 of Elmira, NY passed away at home Friday, February 22nd, 2013. He was born in Elmira on the 25th of December 1928. Surviving are his children: son, Charles (Rosemary) Woodruff Jr. of Polk City, FL;daughters, Dorothy (Randy) Seymour of Dundee, NY, Miriam Woodruff of Watkins Glen; son: Bennett Woodruff of Elmira, daughter: Georgia (Larry) Teed ofWellsboro;grandchildren: Bradley Hagan, Meghann Hourihan, Matthew(Sarah) Hourihan, Colin Teed, Stephen Teed; great grandchildren:Evan and Gabe Hourihan, Patrick White. Charlie is predeceased by his son and daughter in law: Henry and Julie Woodruff. He started his law enforcement career in the Town of Big Flats as a policemen and transferred daughters: Dorothy (Randy) Seymour of Dundee, NY, Miriam Woodruff of Watkins Glen; son: Bennett Woodruff of Elmira; daughter: Georgia (Larry) Teed ofto be a deputy in the Chemung County Sheriff‘s Department, where he later retired as Sergeant at the age of 70. He was a devoted Masonic Mason, of the Elmira Lodge #95 F&AM Masonic Lodge, He was also affiliated with the Big Flats Masonic Lodge #378. He served as Asst. Grand Lecturer for the Chemung-Schuyler-Tioga Dist. From 1995-1996 and served the District from 1996-1997 as the District Deputy Grand Master. He mastered the Masonic Ritual and was always willing to take part when asked. He along with R.W. Walter Hastings were instrumental in starting the Purple Team in early 2000, willing to put on the Second Degreefor any Masonic Lodge in need. Charlie was also a Loyal member of the Kalurah Shrine of Endicott, NY where he provided countless hours of transportation to many children in need of free medical care. Transporting children to Shrine Hospitals in Philadelphia, Erie, and Boston.He was proud to work many hours behind the sno-cone stand for both Binghamton and Elmira Shrine Circuses. He was a devoted member of the Scottish Rite, Lodge Council Chapter Consistory.He enjoyed fishing, canoeing, and bird watching especially eagles, and there was not a John Wayne movie he hadn’t seen. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY Tuesday, February 26th, 2013 from 5:00PM to 7:30PM. Funeral and committal services will be held at the conclusion of the Masonic Committal services at 7:45PM. Graveside services will be held privately in the Rural Home Cemetery, Big Flats, NY.
