Charles R. Ziegler

Was born September 9, 1921 in Elmira, NY the son of the late Ludwig and Mary (Ersly) Ziegler passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 26, 2010 at the age of 88. His loving wife of 65 years, Bette predeceased him on December 3, 2007. He is survived by his loving daughters and son-in-law, Charlene and Ronald Rivlin of Ijamsville, MD; Christa and Bob David of Lowman, NY; beloved grandchildren, Heather (Ryan) Saltsman, Branden (Alicia) Wood, Kristine Rivlin, Jason Rivlin, Rebecca Wood, Devin (Kelsey) Wood, Kyle Wood; adored great grandchildren, Ashley and Matthew Saltsman, Ethan Wood and Dominic Wood; sisters, Jeanette Sprague of Elmira, NY; Marilyn Pearson of Waverly, NY; along with several nieces and nephews. Ritchie was a graduate of Southside High School class of 1940. He was a proud veteran of the US Army proudly serving his country from 1942 to 1945 during WW II. After 42 years of dedicated service, he retired as a photo engraver with the Elmira Star Gazette. As a very active member of the First Baptist Church, he was head of the Deacon Board and Superintendent of the Sunday School. He held memberships with the following: Grand Lodge F. & A. M. # 95 Elmira, past member of the Cashmere Grotto, and an active member of the Elmira Stamp Club. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 1:00 PM. Services honoring his life will be celebrated by Reverend David Daniels. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery where Ritchie will be laid to rest with his beloved Bette. The Chemung County Veterans Honor Squad will accord Mr. Ziegler military honors at the grave for his devoted service to his country. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to the SPCA Animal Shelter Route 2435 State Route # 352 Elmira, NY 14903.
