Clara L. Peroski, age 97, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Bethany Manor, Horseheads, NY. She was the daughter of the late Emma (Messner) and John S. Lindsay. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 29 years, Charlie. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Mary & Larry Houseknecht of Florence, SC; Cecelia Marie & John Laub of Eaton, NY; her favorite four-legged niece, Simone Nicole Laub; grandchildren, Laurie (Luther) Haungst, Mark (Cyndi - her special niece) Houseknecht, Dana Houseknecht, Jacqueline (Joey) Stokes, Theresa Marie (Eric) Givens, Marybeth (Tom) Riley; 16 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Joseph "Joey" (Lilo) Peroski of Germany; cousins, Mary Messner, Darlene Messner (Fred) Smith, Martha Messner (John) Gisinger, Elaine Messner (David) McNeilly; special friend, Mareen Costello; special nieces and nephews in Sheffield, PA: Yonko O'Donish, Cathy and Bud, Nicky and Lisa, Bobby and Theresa, Stevie Peroski, Missy Peroski, Sonja (Dave) Miller, Father Mark Leasure. Clara was a lifetime member of the Centenary and New Beginnings United Methodist Churches. She was one of the oldest members of the Elmira Zonta Club. She was a high school graduate and graduated from Elmira Business Institute. Clara retired from Elm Chevrolet after several years of dedicated service. She was one of the founders of the Triple "C" Cloggers Club and a member of the Twin Tiers Square Dance group for twenty years. Clara and Charlie enjoyed vacations, Maggie Valley, NC and wintering in Okeechobee, FL. She loved to play cards, collect the money for the Zonta Meetings, and helped count the offerings every Monday morning for her church.Charlie loved to fish but she packed his lunch. As far as being a New York Giants football fan, she had no choice. On road trips, Charlie would call her his favorite nag-a-vator. May Clara and Charlie rest in peace. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY on Sunday, August 7, 2016 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Funeral services honoring her life will follow the visitation at 4 pm. Pastor Leanne Zeck will officiate. Interment will take place at the convenience of her family in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
