Of Elmira, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 16, 2004.His wife, Helen B. Sutherland Starr, predeceased him on February 7, 1995.Cliff is survived by his son, Gary S. Starr of Los Angeles, CA; daughter, Barbara J. and Hans P. Appelt of Elmira; grandchildren, Yvette Sullivan, Peter (Vicki) Appelt, both of Elmira; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Helen Appelt, Alexandra Marie Sullivan, Deven Thomas Sullivan, Lauren Ashley Sullivan, Ashley Nicole Sullivan; sister-in-law, Jane Wales; special friend, Rhea Bryant; and several nieces and nephews.Cliff was retired from Corning Inc, was a US Navy Veteran of World War II, and held memberships in the Cayuta-Elmira Chapter #42 Royal Arch Masons of Chemung, NY, St. Omers Commandery No. 19 Knights Templar of Elmira, Chemung Valley-Waverly Lodge #0350 F & AM of Chemung, NY, Southern Tier Council #16 Royal & Select Masters of Elmira, Knight of the York Cross of Honor, Kalurah Shrine Center of Endicott, NY, and the Masonic War Veterans of New York State.Cliff was also a Scoutmaster for Troop #5.Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc, 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY on Sunday, March 21, 2004 from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 PM.Funeral services will be held there Monday, March 22 at 12 PM.Interment will follow in the Woodlawn National Cemetery, where the Chemung County Veterans Honor Squad will accord full military honors.Memorial donations in Cliff?s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1316 College Ave, Elmira, NY 14901 or the DAV-Disabled American Veterans Chapter 13, c/o Alice Black, 902 S.
