Age 83, of Horseheads, NY former longtime resident of Southport, NY. He was born February 22, 1921, the son of the late LeRoy S. and Clara Oliphant Smith of East Smithfield, PA. His brother, Gerald Smith and Uncle Emmett Oliphant, predeceased Clifford. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years and best friend, Betty Gower Smith; his loving children, of whom he was so proud, daughters Lynda DeRigge, Jean and her husband David B. Potter, Jr.; son, Michael S. and his wife LuAnn Smith, all of Elmira; his loving grandchildren, June and Scott Batulis, Michael and Pamela DeRigge, David and Jan Potter, Betsy Potter, Thomas and Peggy Potter, Amy and Ed Browning, Mary and Liam Lohmuller, Daniel and Barbra Smith, Susan and Daniel O?Connell; numerous great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and feline companion, ?Sam?.Clifford was retired from Sears Roebuck and Co., after a career as a farm equipment, truck, and tractor tire salesman.He graduated from East Smithfield School, was the proprietor of the Five Acres Tavern in Chemung, NY, an honorary member of the Southport Volunteer Fire Department, and an avid fisherman.Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, on Sunday, January 2, 2004 from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 PM with Funeral and Committal there at 8:00 PM.Rev. Anne L. Mowery will officiate. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
