David Harry â??Whiplash�? Richards

Of Horseheads, NY, passed away peacefully at Strong Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family on Friday, April 8, 2005. David was born on November 7, 1949 in Elmira, NY, the son of D. Harry Jr. and Bette Thomas Richards. He graduated from Southside High School in Elmira, and Marywood College in Scanton, PA, with a Masters Degree in social work. He served in the United States Army in Germany and was a combat veteran of the Vietnam War. David was a Social Worker at St. Joseph?s Hospital Behavioral Science Unit and at The Elmira Psychiatric Center.He is survived by his mother, Bette Richards of Pine City, NY; daughters, Magon (Gary) Bennett and Sarah Richards both of Ithaca, NY; sisters, Shirley (Stan) Hungerford of Syracuse, NY and Betty (Michael) Sommer of Maryland; grandchildren, Kaylee and Kameron Bennett of Ithaca; niece, Kristin Sommer of Maryland; nephews, Eric (Nicole) Hungerford of Pasadena, CA and Adam (Melissa) Hungerford of Centreville, VA. David was predeceased by his father, D. Harry Richards Jr. and nephew, David Sommer.Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, with Funeral and Committal Service there Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM.Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira. Those wishing may make donations to the Sarah Richards Education Fund, C/O Shirley Hungerford, 98 Richmond Road West, East Syracuse, NY 13057 in David?s memory.Those wishing may leave a ?Candle of Remembrance? for the family in Obituaries at www.olthof.com .
