Was born December 27, 1936 in Williamsport, PA the son of the late William and Regina Harper, passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center at the age of 73. His beloved wife, Zoe Anna Harper, son, Gregory A. Harper and brothers, William and Keith preceded him in death. He is survived by his sons, Steven (Allison) Harper with their children, Kaitlyn and Kristen Harper; Brett (Mary Claire) Harper with their children, William and Joseph Harper; sister, Nancy Boyland; along with several nieces and nephews, especially nephew, David (Deanna) Reidy. He is also is survived many close friends, especially Paul Burns. David graduated from Williamsport High School in 1954. He furthered his education at Lock Haven University and received his Master's Degree from Bucknell University. He was a Veteran of the US Navy and proudly served his country, was a life member of the Elmira Elks BPOE # 62 and was one of the original founders of Southside Sub Shop. In 1991, he retired as a high school teacher from Southside High School after 30 dedicated years of teaching. He was an avid NASCAR fan and followed Mark Martin. He coached Babe Ruth Baseball for many years,liked spending time at his cottage on Seneca Lake,loved the outdoors and was very fond of the Pinecrest Hunting Camp. Family and friends will be gathering at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM and 5:00 to 7:00 PM. The Elmira Elks BPOE Lodge # 62 will conduct their service following the visitation at 7PM. Funeral services will follow that service with Lay Pastor John P. Knapp celebrating David's life. Interment will take place on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 in Woodlawn Cemetery where the Chemung County Veteran's Honor Squad will accord Mr. Harper Military Honors. The Harper family will meet at the Walnut Street gate at 10 AM then proceed to the site where David will be laid to rest.
