Age 53, of Elmira, succumbed to his battle with lung cancer, with extraordinary courage and dignity, on July 1, 2005.David passed away peacefully with his brother and sister at his side in Corning Hospital.He was born to T. John and Nancy (Fink) Walter on September 1, 1951 and was a 1970 graduate of Elmira Free Academy.Upon graduation, he attended the University of Arizona and remained in Tucson until 1979, when he returned to his home town for the remainder of his life.For many years he worked with his father in the real estate appraisal business.After his parents? retirements he devoted his life to their needs and care.Both parents are now deceased.After David was diagnosed with serious lung disease, he began delivering newspapers for the Elmira Star Gazette on several Corning Routes.Until he had to give up the position after months of chemotherapy, he never missed a day of work.David will be greatly missed by his brother, John (Ren) Walter of Philadelphia, PA and his sister, Beth (Walter) Honadle, brother-in-law, George Honadle, and nephew, F. Jeffrey Honadle, of Cincinnati, OH.The family appreciates the care and compassion he received at the Guthrie Clinic and Corning Hospital. Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira on Tuesday, July 5, 2005 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
