Della R. Olivey

Formerly of 612 McDowell Place passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at Bethany Manor Horseheads, NY at the age of 94. She was born March 26, 1915 in Elmira, NY the daughter of the late William Irvin and Nyda Jane (McLaughlin) Ziegler. Her loving husband, with whom she spent 54 wonderful years of life and love with, William J. Olivey; sister, Laura Ziegler; niece, Linda Ziegler Gordy predeceased her. She is survived by her brother, Frank (Betty) Ziegler; nieces, Jean (Claude) Marsh, Suzanne Rounds and Gail (Robert) Tobiasson; nephew, Robert Ziegler; along with sever great nieces and great nephews. Della was a 1932 graduate of Southside High School and continued her education at the University of Rochester graduating in 1936 as a Registered Nurse. For many years she was a dedicated employee of Remington Rand and was a charter member of the B.P.O Does since 1964. Della had a special place in her heart for children, enjoyed working in her flower gardens, and was devoted to her many pets.Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY on Sunday, December 27, 2009 from 2:00 to 3:00 PM. Funeral services honoring her life will follow the visitation at 3 PM. Reverend Maryann Bernard will celebrate Della's service. Interment will take place in the Woodlawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed a charity of one's choice or to the Chemung County Humane Society & SPCA 2435 Route # 352 Elmira, NY 14903.
