Doris May (Austin) Russell age 88 of Elmira passed away at home surrounded by her family March 24, 2013.She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth in 1987. Her surviving family includes her daughters and sons, Judy (Curt) Dickerson of Beaver Dams, Jim (Mary Jane) Russell of Horseheads, Sandy (Dan) Vinyard, of Locust, North Carolina, Carol (Gary) Jividen of Wellsburg, Pat (Van) Gillette of Pine City, Rich (Pam) Russell of Pine City and Janet Bierline of Deltona, Florida; 27 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. Brothers and sisters Jane (Rev. Donald) Rockwell of Pine City, Mary Lou (Phil) Parsons of Canton, Pa, and Dr. Frederick Austin of California. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son-in-law Joe Bierline and her grandchildren, Cory Russell, Alex Bierline, Bobby Gillette, Emily Russell, and Chad Jividen. Doris was also predeceased by her brothers Robert and Lawrence Austin and sister Edna Schmick. Doris was born and raised in Canton, Pa. She was a graduate of Canton High School class of 1942. In addition to being a dedicated wife and mother she was employed previously by Remington Rand, F. M. Howell, and Elmira Discount. Doris was a long time member of Southside Baptist Church where she was very involved in church activities including Mission Bells. Doris loved everyone, but most of all she loved the Lord.She enjoyed reading the Bible, her flower garden and crocheting. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Emily Russell Memorial Scholarship Fund at 1st Baptist Church Waverly, NY or to American Baptist Missions.Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home 1050 Pennsylvania Ave Elmira on March 28th2-4 or 6-8pm and the funeral will be March 29th at 11 AM with the Rev. David Daniels officiating. Burial service will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira.
