Dorothy I. Milazzo

Was born November 19, 1920 in Springfield Township, PA the daughter of the late Frank C. and Jennie Belle (Berry) Gates, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility at the age of 89. Her brother, Paul "Bud" Gates, mother and father-in-law, Charles and Emma Milazzo, sister-in-law, Angela (Daniel) Donahoe and brother-in-law, Salvatore (Jean) Milazzo also predeceased her. He is survived by her loving husband with whom she has spent 62 wonderful years of life and love with, Richard Milazzo; son and daughter-in-law, Richard C. and JoAnn Milazzo of Elmira, NY; daughters and son-in-laws, Patricia M. and Frank Gush of Elmira, NY; Kathleen (Paul) Murphy of Ellington, CT; beloved grandchildren, Craig (Missy) Milazzo, Jennifer (George) Robinson and Meghan Murphy; adored great grandchildren, Isabel, Joseph, Anamaria and Gabriela Milazzo; Jacob, Joshua, Justin and Jessica Robinson; sister-in-law, Charlotte Gates of Towanda, PA; along with several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was a faithful communicant of St. Mary's Church and volunteered for the ARC and RSVP. For 30 + years, Dorothy volunteered as an Election Board Inspector with Chemung County. Her devotion to volunteering was a trait that was instilled in her children that they are very proud of. She was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed to cook, bake and was crafty. Dorothy loved the many trips to Myrtle Beach with her beloved Richard. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY on Monday, January 4, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. A Prayer Service will be held there on Tuesday, January 4th at 10:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church 224 Franklin Street Elmira. The Reverend Jeffery Tunnicliff will celebrate Dorothy's Mass. Interment will follow in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery where Father Tunnicliff will conduct the committal prayers. The family will provide their own flowers. Memorial donations may be directed to St. Mary's Renovation Fund, the ARC or a charity of one's choice. Envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.
