AMES, Douglas GeorgeOf Elmira, NYAge 73,of Beecher Street Elmira, passed away very unexpectedly at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA on Saturday, November 10, 2007. The son of the late Wiilliam and Lillian (Day) Ames, he was also predeceased by his brothers, Phillip Ames and sisters, Marcella Pettie and Elinor Ames and a nephew James Swithers. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Marjorie A. (Hall) Ames; daughters, Margo Combs (Albert Dunkle) of Millport, NY; Kimberly Ellison (Mark Gilbert) of Anderson, SC; grandchildren, Douglas R. Ames (Jolena Gromes) of Elmira; Amber Ellison of Elmira; and two great grandchildren, Douglas R. Ames Jr. D.J. and Dusti Lea VanHouten-Foster. He is also survived by a brother, John (Dorothy) Ames and two sisters, Margaret Swithers of Horseheads, NY; and Lillian York of Elmira, NY; along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and a small group of very close friends. Doug was a very loved man, who enjoyed hunting and was an avid New York Yankees fan. He was a Veteran of the US Army and graduated from Southside High School in 1953. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY on Thursday, November 15, 2007 from 1:00 to 3:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held there on Friday, November 16, 2007 at 11:00 AM. The Reverend William Vallet will officiate. Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family in Maple Grove Cemetery Horseheads, NY. Memorial donations in the name of Douglas G.
