E. Arden Peterson

April 25, 1916 — May 30, 2006

Age 90 of 801 Euclid Avenue, Elmira, NY. passed away at home on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 surrounded by his family with his beloved wife Cynthia at his side. Arden was the son of the late Adolf and Johanna Bystrom Peterson, born in Elmira, NY on April 25, 1916. He is survived by his devoted wife Cynthia of Elmira (61 years); son, Norman Peterson of Elmira; daughter, Susan (Thomas) Lynough of Elmira; grandchildren, Jessica L. Jankowski, Thomas J. Lynough, Jeffrey T. (Nicole) Lynough; step-grandsons, Matthew Lynough, Andrew Lynough; sister-in-law, Eleanor J. Peterson of Elmira; nephew, Raymond Manley; niece, Sharlene Kaney of Atlanta, GA. He was predeceased by his son, Raymond Peterson in 1989. Arden worked at Remington Rand, Eclipse/Bendix Corp. and was a Veteran of the Army during WWII working in Oak Ridge, TN on the Manhattan Project, developing the US Atomic Bomb. After that he went to Washington DC to work in the US Patent Office. Following that, he went to GE where he retired, then to Kennedy Valve and Elmira Correctional Facility as a foreman. Arden was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church for over 80 years and a member of the choir for over 60 years. He was active in the Men?s Brotherhood, past member of the Bentley Post American Legion, past President of PTA, an active Cub Scout Leader in the area. Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira on Saturday, June 3, 2006 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM with funeral and committal there at 4:00 PM. The Rev. David Ashby will officiate. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church, or Southern Tier Hospice.
