Edgar N. Mathews

Age 76 of Elmira, NY, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at home.He was born on April 10, 1927 in Horseheads, NY.Edgar was the husband of the late Phyllis (Rinker) Mathews and father of Charlene (Lynn) Montgomery, Karen (Walter) Reynolds, Edwin (Christine) Mathews and Benjamin Mathews. He is also survived by his grandchildren Walter, Allen, and Jeremy Reynolds, Betty Jane Muennich, Terrie Thron, Rodney May, Stephen, Stanley, Elizabeth, David, and Daniel Mathews, Becky Parker, Samantha Ferriter, Jennifer VonNeida and Joshua Luecken; 21 great-grandchildren; sisters, Elsie Vanderpool and Hannah Larrabee; brothers, David, Ted, and Clarence Mathews. Edgar was predeceased by his parents, Bertha and David Mathews; son, S-SGT Stanley Mathews; daughter, Jan Ellen Luecken, grandson, A.J. Luecken; and sister, Christine Klimik. Edgar was a retired general foreman for Kennedy Valve Inc. with 34 years of service, and a United States Army Veteran of World War II. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing with Edwin and Steve. Edgar also loved visiting with his daughters, traveling to Alaska, going to Florida to soak up the sun; but most importantly, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, who always provided for his family. Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. on Friday, February 6, 2004 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, with Funeral Service there Saturday at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
