EDWARD NELSON JERZAK SR.Born July 21, 1947.Passed into the eternal December 11, 2012.Born in Elmira, NY to Walter D. Jerzak Jr. and Betty M. Houston Jerzak.Ed was predeceased by his Daughter Jennifer K. Jerzak Haskins, July 19, 2003.Survived by his wife of 46 years, Pastor Nora Jennings Jerzak, Daughters, Yvonne (Rick) Jones of Elmira, NY; Rachael Jerzak of Gastonia, NC; and Son Edward N. Jerzak Jr. of Gastonia, NC.Four Grandchildren, Andrea James of Elmira; Dustin Jones of Elmira; David Jones of Elmira and Lauren Jerzak of Gastonia, NC. Four Great Grandchildren, Jennifer; Imani; Lilly Ann, and Kaeden.brothers: David (Diana) Jerzak of Clearwater, FL; Gary (Sue) Jerzak of Horseheads, NY; Larry (Arlene) Jerzak of Millerton, PA; Walter “Buddy” (Paula) Jerzak of Watkins Glen, NY. sister: Beverly Jerzak of Elmira, NY.several nieces and nephews.Ed graduated from Southside High School, Elmira, NY 1965 and Corning Community College in 1979.He served in the Air Force 1967-1971 part of which was in Udorn AFB, Thailand during the Viet Nam conflict.Ed worked at Westinghouse Corp, IBM-Owego, Loral Corp-Owego and Lockheed Martin Inc. retired in 2001. Ed served on several Walk to Emmaus Teams as well as Chrysalis in Central and Western New York.He was a Lay Member to NCNY Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. He was a certified Lay Speaker for the United Methodist Church at Webb Mills UMC, East Homer and Truxton UMC’s,Ogdensburg and Morristown UMC’s in NY, and Christ UMC in Gastonia, NC.He taught many Bibles Studies and led men’s groups as well as preaching from time to time.Currently he served as President of the United Methodist Men at Christ United Methodist Church in Gastonia, NC.In his spare time, he served with the Webb Mills Volunteer Fire Department, the Pine City Volunteer Fire Department and the Truxton Volunteer Fire department.He was a certified EMT for 10 years.Ed was a member of the Elmira Masonic Lodge No. 95 F & A M in Elmira, NY and a member of the VFW in Gastonia, NC. Ed loved to fish, hunt, play cards, and tell stories and jokes.Family and friends are invited to gather at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY 14904 on Sunday, December 16th, 2012 from 1 to 3 pm and 6 to 8 pm.Funeral and committal services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 8:00 pm. Reverend Donald Hoff will officiate.Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
