Pautz, Edward “Eddie” Age 78 lifelong member of the Southport community, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was the son of the late Frederick and Doris Pautz; born in Elmira July 29th, 1936. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years Lena in 2013. Surviving are his sons, Scott E. Pautz of Beaver Dams, NY, and Chris (Karen) Pautz of Coxsackie, NY; grandson, Robert Pautz; and brother, Ronald Pautz of Bangkok, Thailand. He was a Lifetime member of the Southport Volunteer Fire Department, the New York-Penn Fireman’s Assoc., and a lifetime member of the Elmira Elks Club B.P.O.E. #62. Eddie will be best known for his unwavering commitment to the Southport community. His love for the Southport Fire Department and its members was undeniable and he would give at any cost to support its cause and purpose. He was an integrated part of this community woven into its very fabric of life. Many have come to know him as the Fair Shake train driver. He loved seeing the people and meeting the children.Greeting everyone with a very friendly smile, handshake andsoft “Hello” was what he was about. He had a special way about him to comfort children reluctant to ride the train.Giving to the people of Southport is what he loved. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY on Sunday, May 17th, 2015 from 1:00PM to 3:00PM and from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. Funeral services celebrating Eddie’s life will be held at the conclusion of the calling hours at 8:00PM. Graveside services will follow on Monday morning at the St. Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Elmira at 10:00AM.
