PHILBIN, Edwin A. EdAge 87Of Elmira, NY passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday September 13, 2008. Survived by, children, Sharon (Joseph) Pearte, Lynn (Margie) Philbin of Greenville, NC, Margaret (David) Redfield, Kathleen (Peter) Dineen, of West Boxford, MA, 14 Grandchildren, 19 Great grandchildren and 2 Great great grandchildren.Extended family, Deb, PJ, Kelly, Colin White and many special friends and neighbors. Predeceased by wife of 51 years Mary Philbin on August 17, 1998, son James A. Philbinon June 18, 1980, sisters Ann Finch, Mary Ostrander, and brother Gerard Philbin. Ed was a member of the American Legion Post #154, Elmira Heights V.F.W, was a member and a captain in the Southport Volunteer Fire Department. Retired from the United States Post Office after many years of service and also retired from the Remington Rand Corp.Was the driving force in getting the Veterans Memorial at Fitzsimmons Cemetery to honor his fallen comrades. US Army Veteran of World War II. Ed was lifelong member and Usher atSt. Marys Church.Family and Friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira on Monday September 15, 2008 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM with the Recitationof the Rosary at 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM in St Marys Church, (Southside), followed by graveside service with full military honors at St. Peter & Pauls Cemetery. Those wishing may make memorials to the Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 East Corning Road Corning, NY14830.
