Age 88, peacefully passed away early Saturday morning, December 17, 2005 surrounded by his loving wife and family.He was born March 12, 1917 in Hamilton, Ohio and came to Elmira to work at the Remington Rand, where he was employed for 36 years.He worked for Vasco Brands for 14 years, before retiring.Elden served his country in the Army during World War II, where he was in the invasion of Normandy Beach, was wounded in action, and received the Purple Heart.He met and married Eleanor M. Ripley in 1941 and celebrated 64 years of life and love with her on September 20th. In addition to his wife, Elden is also survived by his sons, Blair (Chris); Mark (Jane); Larry ( JoAnn); daughter, Marcia (Felix) Lukenbill; 12 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. Elden will be remembered for his quick wit, and kind, gentle spirit. Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, December 19, 2005 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM in the Elmira Wesleyan Church, 1100 S. Main St., Elmira, NY 14904, with Pastor Edward Crandall and Pastor Laurie Greenlaw celebrating Elden?s life.Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira. Memorial donations in Elden?s name may be made to the Elmira Wesleyan Church or to the Residents Fund, Chemung County Nursing Facility, 103 Washington St., Elmira, NY 14901.Those wishing may leave a ?Candle of Remembrance? for the family at www.olthof.com. Sincere thanks go out to the staff at the Chemung County Nursing Facility for the kind, compassionate care of Elden, his wife, and their family over the past year.
