Eleanor J. Putney

Eleanor J. Putney, 89, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passedpeacefully Friday, July 3, 2015surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 7, 1925 in Elmira to Mina Belle (Evans) and Clarence Oliver Doty. She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, David and Richard; and son-in-law, John Cummings.Eleanor is survived by her devoted children, Cheryl Putney Drew of Horseheads; Charline Cummings of Pine City; J. Forrest (Wendy) Putney of Freeville; J. Vincent (Laura) Putney of Pine Valley; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Packard and Marjorie (Vinnie) Magaw; along with several nieces and nephews and extended family members. A celebration of her exemplary and amazing life will take place on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church on Westinghouse Road in Horseheads where she was a long-term member and a Deacon. Pastor Jonathan Knight will officiate. Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family in Maple Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make memorial donations in Eleanor's honor to First Presbyterian Church of Horseheads, 2943 Westinghouse Rd., Horseheads, NY 14845, or to a charity of one's choice. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff on the fifth floor at Arnot Ogden Medical Center and also to the staff at S1 Bethany Manor for the wonderful care she received.
