Age 100, formerly of Arbor Manor in Horseheads and Race Street, Elmira, died Thursday, March 18, 2004 at St. Joseph?s Hospital, Elmira.Eleanor was born October 5, 1903 in Philadelphia, PA.She was orphaned at the age of 5 and raised by Lilly and Frank Barnhart of Elkland, PA.Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, Roland Sherman.She is survived by one daughter, Ellen Gerow of Elmira, NY; 3 grandchildren, Gail (Danny) Wandell of Elmira, NY, Clayton (Lena) Gerow of San Diego, CA, Bonnie (Joe) Todd of Horseheads, NY; great-grandchildren, John (Jenny) Wandell, Hope (Kenny) Root, Crystal Wandell, Missy and Lindsey Todd; 8 great-great-grandchildren; 4 great-step-grandchildren; niece, Joyce Griesel; and nephew, Roland Thompson of Texas.Eleanor was a former employee of Artistic Greeting Cards Inc.She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother, who loved music and dancing around the house to music.She always had a kind word to say about everyone.Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY on Monday, March 22, 2004 from 2 to 4 PM, with funeral and committal services immediately following at 4 PM.Rev. Edward Crandall will officiate.Interment will take place in the Woodlawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
