Of Big Flats, NY, formerly of Elmira, NY, passed away on Friday, January 14, 2005.She was born August 29, 1913 in Elmira, NY, the daughter of the late Melville and Bertha (Cook) Lane. She is survived by her daughters, Lisbeth Patterson of Horseheads, NY and Carolyn (Martin) Tate of Mahaffey, PA; grandchildren, Garin (Kristen) Tate of Lorton, VA, Paul (Rebecca) Patterson of Washington, DC, Karen Patterson of Horseheads, NY, and Matthew Patterson of Albany, NY; brother in-law, Walter (Lucille) Barchet of Lewisburg, PA; and several nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband of over 50 years, Edward M. Barchet, on August 12, 1990; sister, Josephine Conway; and son-in-law, Thomas I. Patterson, Jr.Elizabeth was a graduate of St. Joseph?s Hospital School of Nursing and a United States Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the Nurse Corps in the Philippines. She was also a 1963 graduate of Cortland College.Elizabeth worked as a nurse at St. Joseph?s Hospital and later was an Audiologist & School Nurse Teacher for the Elmira City School District. She was a member of St. Joseph?s Hospital Auxiliary and a parishioner of St. Peter & Paul?s Church, Elmira, NY.Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday January 22, 2005 at 12:00 PM in St. Peter & Paul?s Church, with Father Gerard Kabarega officiating.Interment will immediately follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, where full military honors will be accorded Elizabeth at the grave by the Chemung County Veterans Honor Squad. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph?s Hospital Foundation, Alumni Fund, 555 E. Market St. Elmira, NY 14901. Those wishing may leave a ?Candle of Remembrance? for the family in Obituaries at www.olthof.com.The family would like to thank Deborah Gilliam for the wonderful care and comfort given by her to their mom during her stay at Deborah?s care home.
