81, passed away on January 29, 2014 of natural causes. She had been a resident of St. Joseph's Skilled Nursing facility for more than three years. Betty was a life-long resident of Elmira and a member of First Baptist Church, now The United Baptist Church. She was predeceased by husband Glenn F. Messenger and daughter Debra Morton Stevens. Betty is survived by son David L. Messenger and wife Mary (Graham), daughter Janis M. Kellogg and husband Mark, son-in-law Donald Stevens and brother-in-law Harold Bruce. Also surviving are grandchildren Kathryn (Messenger) and Randy Kasenych, Veronica (Messenger) and John Caputo, Joseph and Kelly Morton, Daniel and Nicole Morton, Christopher and Andrea Kellogg, Valerie (Kellogg) and Lloyd Graves, nine great grandsons and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Betty retired from Bern Furniture in 1994 and spent her time taking cruises, reading and knitting. She was active in her church having served as a deaconess and also worked on the history of the church. Betty worked on the church sponsored soup kitchen and the Tuesday luncheons served at the church. Calling hours will be at Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, February 12, 2014. Funeral services will be at Trinity Episcopal Church, 304 N. Main Street, Elmira, NY on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 11:00 AM. The services will be in the Chapel. In lieu of flowers a donation to her church or hospice in Elizabeth's memory.
