Age 80, of Elmira, NY went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at St. Joseph?s Hospital, Elmira.He was born July 21, 1924 in Athens, PA the son of the late Robert and Ruth (Northrup) Stranger.Elmer is survived by his children; Donna (Gerald) Morgan of Gillett, PA, Robert (Kathy) Stranger of Lowman, NY, Sharron (Laverne) Schmidt of Gotham, WI, Susan (Merrill) Aumick of Chemung, NY, David (Rhonda) Stranger of Anchorage, AK, James Stranger of Rochester, NY; step-son-in-law Harold Travis of Horseheads, NY. He is also survived by his second wife, Violette Stranger; sister, Edna Hankinson; grandchildren, Michael and Patrick Morgan, Machelle Miller, Dennis Heitauer, Shawn Flynn, Charles Bingham, Robert Aumick, Robert and Daniel Stranger, Teresa Poff; many wonderful great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife and mother of his children, Phyllis M. Stranger; brothers, James, George, Robert, John, Clarence and Donald; sisters, Ethel and Mary; daughter-in-law, Gabriel Stranger; granddaughter, Christina Bingham; and step-daughter, Karen Travis. Elmer graduated from Southside High School and lived most of his life in Lowman, NY. He worked as a foreman at American LaFrance and retired from the Maintenance Department of St. Joseph?s Hospital.He proudly served his country during World War II for almost four years, in the Army Air Corps with the paratroopers and military police in North Africa, Italy, France and Dachau, Germany.Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira on Tuesday, September 14, 2004 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM with funeral and committal services there at 8:00 PM.Reverend Don Hoff will officiate.Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.Memorial donations may be made to the Lowman United Methodist Church, Old Rt. 17, Lowman, NY 14861.A ?Candle of Remembrance? may be left for the family in Obituaries at www.olthof.com.
