Age 80, of Schuyler Ave. Elmira, NY passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born November 15, 1923 in Elmira, NY the son of the late Thomas and Lena (Hunt) Elwood. Ernest married Anna J. Shook on May 19, 1942 in Williamsville, NY together they have celebrated 62 wonderful years of life and love together. His brother, Clyde T. Elwood and daughter, Carol Cunningham, predeceased him. His survivors include: loving wife Anna; son and daughter-in-law, Frank E. and Rose Elwood of Corning, NY; grandchildren, Jeff (Julie) Elwood, Trisha (Todd) Coolbaugh, Melissa (Paul) Borger and Wade Cunningham; great grandchildren, Jenna Elwood, Kendall Coolbaugh and Patricia Borger; brothers, Clyde (Lillian) Elwood of Hammondsport, NY; Kenneth Elwood of Pleasantville, NJ; sister-in-law, Ruth Wahl of Macedon, NY; brother-in-law, John Shook of Horseheads, NY; along with several nieces and nephews. In his earlier years, Tom was involved with the construction of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. For 27 years he was employed by the Elmira Coal Company installing and maintaining boilers, worked part time for Artistic Greetings for 12 years and retired from the US Post Office after 25 years of faithful and dedicated service. He was a Veteran of the US Army and proudly served his country. In his spare time he enjoyed and loved working in his garden. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY on Friday, January 9, 2004 from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 PM. Funeral Services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours. (7:00 PM) The Reverend Cathy Stevenson will officiate.
