Age 89, of Gillett, PA, daughter of the late Alonzo B. and Ivah (Fuller) Curren went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, January 26th, 2011 at her home. Esther graduated from Mansfield University, then known as Mansfield State Teachers College, with a BS in Education. She completed her degree at Cornell University and Elmira College, enjoying art courses there, and certifying her to teach in New York and Pennsylvania. She taught in Potter County, Gillett, Mosherville, and Elmira, New York. She is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Robert D. French, her son David French in infancy, and her brother David Curren. She is survived by her most loved sons; Rick French of Garland, TX and Kevin French of Mosherville. Also surviving are her loving brother and sister-in-law Jack and Anna Mae Curren, 6 Nieces and nephews also survive; Marda McElhaney of Elmira, Delores Bogart, Gloria Sargent, Joann Boor of Gillett, Diann Shields of Ohio, Sandy MacFarlane of Rue, PA, and Todd Curren of Gillett. Surviving also are her beloved grandchildren Derek French of Elmira, Sergeant Devon Martellotti serving in MO. Their children are Reese, Dominick Martellotti, and Sirianna and Dakota French, precious! Esther in also survived by her husband's sister Dorothy Stiles of Troy, PA. Along with teaching in the public schools, she has taught piano for sixty years in the piano studio in her home, giving many delightful recitals over the years. She has played piano and organ in her church, the Mosherville Bible Church for many years, loving to do so. The Lord Jesus Christ has made Esther's ascent into Heaven seamless, and will do the same for anyone who will accept his gift of His life, death and resurrection, especially His resurrection. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NYSaturday, January 29th, 2011 from 12:00PM to 3:00PM. The Reverend Gerald Peetwill officiate. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira.
