Ethel Marie Hoffman of Elmira, NY Age 94, passed away in peace on Sunday, July 26, 2009 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. Ethel was the daughter of the late Lewis and Norma (Tobey) Johnson. Her loving husband, Russell R. Hoffman predeceased her in 2001. She is survived by her beloved daughters, Arlene (Sherman) Barnes of Elmira, NY; Dianne Greene of Ballston Spa, NY; adored grandchildren, Kim (Tom) Copp of Millerton, PA; Joseph (Nora) Barnes of Millerton, PA; Rusty (Heather) Barnes of Revere, MA; Jeremy (Tonya) Greene of Collegeville, PA; Marnie (Keith) Jodoin of Fairfax, VA; much-loved great grandchildren, Samantha, Rebecca, Jennifer, Christina, Sierra, Rider, Logan, Elizabeth, Katherine and Sydney; loving great great grandchildren, Elise and Ashley; along with several nieces and nephews. Ethel was a faithful member of the Pennsylvania Avenue United Methodist Church, a life member of the Southport Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the NY/Penn Fire Association and was a member of the Town of Southport Historical Society. She was a troop leader for the Girl Scouts as well as the Brownies. Ethel loved the 1000 Islands and spending time at her place with family and friends. Her spare time was spent reading and working on puzzles. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Funeral Services honoring her life will follow the visitation at 4 PM. The Reverend Bill Vallet will celebrate Ethel's service. Interment will take place in the Woodlawn Cemetery at the convenience of her family where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved Russell.
