Age 84, of Lowman NY, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at St. Joseph?s Hospital, Elmira, NY.She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Stephens of Owego, NY, Cynthia (Mitchell) Knapp of Chemung, NY; sons, James L. (Sharon) Rhode of Lowman, NY, Herschel E. (Joyce) Rhode of Elmira, NY, Joseph A. (Sophie) Rhode of Lowman, NY, Scott A. (Mary) Rhode of Lowman, NY; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sister, Ona Smith of Syracuse, NY; sisters-in-law, Florence Rhode of Lowman, NY, Geraldine Stocum of Elmira, NY, Mary (Wilson) Elston of Lowman, NY and Ruth Rhode of Elmira, NY;several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Herschel M. Rhode, predeceased her in 1998.Fern was a life long member of the Women?s Auxiliary of the North Chemung Volunteer Fire Department, member of the Farm Bureau and a member of Central Christian Church, Elmira, NY. She enjoyed gardening and being around people. Fern also enjoyed getting together with her birthday group for their luncheons. She was truly a?people person? and loved to get together with her family and friends who she loved dearly. Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira on Monday, June 13, 2005 from 1:00 to 3:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM with Funeral and Committal Service there Monday evening at 8:00 PM. The Reverend Richard Elliott officiating.
