Florence I. Cordier

Age 96 formerly of Hampton Road, Elmira, NY. Passed away on Tuesday April 21, 2009.Florence was born in Richmond Township, Tioga County, PA and moved to Elmira in 1927, graduating from Elmira Southside High School in 1930. She married Earl W. Cordier on June 15, 1935 on June 15, 1935 in Chemung, NY. They divorced in June of 1947.Florence as a single mother, raised her three children. She was a devoted homemaker, worked as a school road crossing guard and later as a waitress at the old Mark Twain Hotel. She was for many years an in-home caregiver to the elderly. She loved crossword puzzles and diligently remembered everyone's birthday's and holidays by sending gifts, cards, and clipped coupons. Florence was a lifelong Republican and served as an election worker and petition carrier in the Town of Southport.For the last several years, Florence resided at the Livingston County Long Term Care Facility in Mt. Morris, NY, where she received wonderful care.Her siblings, Clark Ingalls of Roaring Branch, P; Richard Ingalls of Horseheads, NY; and Eunice (Ingalls) Clark of Elmira, preceded her in death.She is survived by her children, Patricia A. (Cordier) Rizzo of Mount Morris, NY; Thomas E. Cordier of Albany, OR; and John W. Cordier of Carolina Shores, NC; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., on Saturday, April 25, 2009 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, with Funeral and Committal Service there Saturday at 2:00 PM. Pastor William Vallet will officiate.
