Frank David "Hoobie" Hoobler Of Leasburg, NC age 76, formerly of West Elmira, NY; was born September 5, 1939 in Corning, NY the son of Richard Macon and Margaret LuLu (Burgey) Hoobler. Frank passed away very unexpectedly at Person Memorial Hospital in Roxboro, NC on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 with his loving wife Cherie by his side. In 1958 Hoobie graduated from Corning Free Academy. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served his country with the Naval Seabees. It was on January 27, 1968 he married his wife, Cheryl Lee (Morrisey Hoobler at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in West Elmira. In January, they celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary. Dave, as he was affectionately known, retired from UPS after being a dedicated employee for 33 years. Everyone who knew Dave knew him as a workaholic, he enjoyed always having a project to work on and also helping others with their projects. He had many hobbies including: old cars, tractors, NASCAR racing, building things and spending time with his friends. But, everyone who knew Dave knew his favorite thing in life was family. For many years Dave was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in West Elmira and a long time member of the Corning BPO Elks Lodge # 1071 in Corning. Upon his retirement in 1997 he built his dream log home and garage in Leasburg, NC. Dave is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl; beloved children, Colleen Renee Hoobler and partner, Jeb Burton of Curtis Bay, MD; Jennifer Lynn Kimball and her husband, Jason of Elmira, NY; Denise Hoobler of Linthicum, MD; adored grandchildren, Karsyn Lee Marie Fleisch, Kelsey Alexa-Shay Conner and Tyler Michael Kimball; mother-in-law, Margaret Morrisey; siblings, sisters, Joyce and Ed Janowsky of State College, PA; Linda and Ross Davis of Myerstown, PA, Sandra and Ray O'Hara of Weaverville, NC; Kathleen and Jim Hoff of Charlottesville, NC; sister-in-law, Betty Hoobler of Gillett, PA. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Margaret; brother, Richard "Dick" Hoobler; father-in-law, Richard Morrisey. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira, NY 14904 on Monday, July 18, 2016 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM and 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, July 19th at 10 AM inChrist the Redeemer at Our Lady of Lourdes 304 Demarest Parkway West Elmira, NY. The Reverend Scott Kubinski will celebrate Dave's Mass. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery Corning, NY where the Corning Ritual Team from the John P. Eason American Legion Post # 746 will accord Mr. Hoobler with Military Honors and Father Kubinski will offer Committal Prayers. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to the Disabled Veterans of America 434 Garrison Place Elmira Heights, NY 14903. Dave's guestbook may be signed in obituaries at www.olthof.com
