Age 74 of Elmira, NY formerly of Pine City, NY, passed away surrounded by family, April 17, 2006 at home. Garry was the son of the late Frank and Grace Hillman Cole. He was born March 21, 1932 in Millerton, PA. Garry is the spouse of the late Irma Cole who predeceased him in 2002. Surviving Garry are his loving children: Deborah (Scott) Shaw of Horseheads, NY, Pam (Bill) Burns of Elmira, NY, Garry (Juanita) Cole of Sidney, NE; grandchildren whom he adored, David (Kimberly) Woodard of Elmira, NY, Jeffery (Raquel) Woodard of Horseheads, NY, Karen (Chuck) Benjamin of Elmira, NY, Kelly (Joseph) Matthews of Elmira, NY; several loving great grandchildren; brother, Frank (Ellie) Cole of Millerton, PA several loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents and his loving wife, Garry is also predeceased by his son, Timothy Cole, and sister Vera Weeks. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY on Thursday, April 20th, 2006 from 2:00PM to 4:00PM and 7:00PM to 9:00PM. Funeral services will be held there Friday morning at 10:00AM. The Reverend Horace Stoddard will officiate. Graveside services will be held following the funeral services at the Rural Home Cemetery, Big Flats, NY. Garry was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War. He worked for and gained a great amount of knowledge of carpentry from the Hewitt Construction Co. Following his employment with Hewitt he started his own building company called Cole Construction, specializing in the construction of many area homes. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the New York Mets and was not a fan of the other New York team. Garry loved playing cards, softball, baseball and board puzzles. People would know him best for his genuine nature, his love of animals and having an enormous amount of loving family and friends.
