George O. Bird

Was born May 14, 1941 in Coudersport, PA, passed away peacefully at his West Elmira home on Sunday, December 30, 2012 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 71. He was preceded in death by his father, George F. Bird, and is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 32, years, Nancy; sons Gary Bird of Elmira, NY and Eric "Ricky" Bird of Nashville, TN; beloved mother, Jane Jaynes (Owens) of Horseheads, NY; siblings Janice (Loren) Wood of Horseheads, NY, Thomas Bird of Walworth, NY and Nancy (William) Chase of Elmira, NY; along with several nieces and nephews. George served his community for nearly 20 years as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service, and he continued to enjoy neighborhood walks well into his retirement. George accepted his Parkinson's disease with stoic dignity and courage. He was an avid sports fan and loved the LA Dodgers and NY Giants. But above all, he was a caring husband and father. He will be remembered for his witty humor and for always enjoying the simple pleasures in life. At his request there will be no services.
