George Haig

December 7, 1920 — December 12, 2003

Age 83., passed away Friday, December 12th, 2003 at the Robert Packer Hospital. George was born in Manhattan, NY on December 7th, 1920. He was the proprietor of the Broadway Rug from 1961 to 2003 and operated a dry cleaning business out of the same building before his venture into thehelpful, and friendly floor covering business it is today. He served his country in the Navy during World War II. George attended NYU and worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and Remington Rand here in Elmira. His two sisters Anahid and Florence Haig predecease him. Surviving him is his Brother Richard (Jeanne) Haig of Ithaca, NY, Nephews and nieces Dan (Dorothy) Haig, Martha (Steve) Brett, Pete (Jeanne) Haig, Jeff (Sylvianne) Haig, Anna (Mike) Hovanec and great nieces and nephews. Valerie Curtis, Daniel and Jonathan Ward, Lucas and Liana Haig, and Jessica Brett. George had many friends and had a great sense of humor and will be missed by all. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY 14904 Monday, December 15th, 2003 6:00 to 7:00PM. Funeral and committal services will be held there following the calling hours at 7:00PM. Pete Wilcox will officiate. Interment will take place at the Woodlawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Those wishing may make memorial donations in George?s name to the Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 E. Corning Rd, Corning, NY 14830.
