Was born January 9, 1918, the son of Henry L. and Violet (Joslin) Schott Sr. passed away peacefully at his home, 113 Underwood Avenue, Elmira on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at the age of 92. His loving wife and friend of 65 years, Norrine (Bystrom) preceded him in death on July 6, 2009. His twin brother, Simeon and 6 other siblings also predeceased him.George is dearly missed by his children, Richard "Dick" (Eugenie) Schott of West Yarmouth, MA; Dr. Nancy Schott of Columbus, OH; Barbara J. (Larry) Senn of Jamestown, NY; six grandchildren, Susannah (Nate) Criser of West Yarmouth, MA; Amanda (Tom) Price of Charlotte, NC; Kate (Jeff) David of Sacramento, CA; Elizabeth Tussing of Columbus, OH; Ryan (Kelly) Senn of Randolph, NJ; Laura (Adam) Miller of Tonawanda, NY; 4 great grandchildren, Abby Criser, Noel Criser, Benjamin Price and Grant Price; brother, Everett W. Schott of Elmira, NY; brother-in-law, Frank (Dorie) Bystrom of Hobe Sound, FL; friend and colleague, Sherman Moreland III; along with several nieces, nephews and beloved caregivers, Laura, Pat, Porky, Roxanne, Marcia and Jessica. Mr. Schott was a 1942 graduate of Colgate University and a 1943 graduate of Cornell Law School (J. D.). He spent his first 2 years of his practice in New York City with the law firm of Donavan, Leisure, Newton and Lumbard of 2 Wall Street, but returned to Elmira and Marine Midland Bank where he worked as a mortgage officer while continuing a limited practice of law until 1966. He left the bank to open his own law office and to manage the Chemung County Office of the Ithaca based Tompkins and Watkins Abstract Corporation. In 1970 he started his own abstract business, T. W. and C. Abstract Corporation, which he sold in 1988 to the Rochester, based Monroe Title Insurance Corporation and continued to work part time for them until September 16, 2002 when he retired. Mr. Schott was a past President of the Chemung County Bar Association and an officer of the Chemung County Cerebral Palsy Association. He was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where he taught the adult Sunday School class for over 20 years and served a term as President of the Church Council. He and his wife were members of Bethany Lutheran Church at the time of his death where he was also an active member. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service honoring his life on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Bethany Lutheran Church 256 South Walnut Street Elmira, NY 14904. Reverend Abigail Zang Hoffman will officiate. A Luncheon/Reception will follow immediately in the Fellowship Hall. George will be laid to rest with his beloved Norrine at 2 PM at the Woodlawn Cemetery where Reverend Hoffman will offer the committal prayers.
