Gerald Duane "Jerry" BauerFormerly of Elmira, NYAge 69, of Hector, NY passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at the Medical University in Charleston, SC after a brief illness. He was born February 24, 1939 in Elmira, NY, son of the late Joseph and Helen (Johnston) Bauer. His beloved son, Joseph; sister, JoAnn Beckwith; brother-in-law, Robert Beckwith; mother and father-in-law, John and Florence McElligott, also predeceased Jerry. Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Mary (McElligott) Bauer; daughters, Sherrie (Sam) Pizzo, Debra (Kevin) Qualey, Karen (Tim) Sanphy; grandchildren, Emily and Hannah Qualey, Shannon and Daniel Sanphy; along with many nieces and nephews. Jerry loved his family above all. He enjoyed his fishing and boating at Seneca Lake and most of all his weekly golf games with cousin, Doug Bauer, Louie Fossaceca and Dick Taylor. He was a kind and good man with a great sense of humor. He loved his winters in Myrtle Beach and golfing also with Fran Caparulo. He will dearly missed by everyone who knew him. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Father Rick Farrell will officiate the Prayer Service following the visitation at 8 PM. Interment will take place privately for the family in the Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers those wishing may remember Jerry through donations to the Arnot Ogden Medical Center 600 Roe Ave. Elmira, NY 14905.
