Gerald B. Root

Root, Gerald B. age 86 longtime member of the Millerton community, passed away Wednesday, March 5th, 2014 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Gerald was born in Mehoopany, Pa on September 11th, 1927 the son of the late Albert and Kathryn (Pond) Root. He is survived by his Sons: Gary (Linda) Root of Millerton, Dave (Barb) Root of Horseheads, Steve (Jeanne) Root of East Smithfield, Clifford (Jackie) Root of Lawrenceville, Elaine (Tom) Rupp of Elmira, and Russell Root (Lori Baxter) of Millerton; 13 grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren; He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters and his beloved wife of 65 years Charlotte whom passed February 17th, 2013. He worked for S.M. Flickinger Food Service over 40 years until his retirement.He acted as Union Steward for local #529 for several years; a long time volunteer for the Millerton Fire Department and loved his garden. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY onSaturday, March 8th, 2014 from 1:00PM to 4:00PM. Funeral services celebrating Gerald’s life will be held following the calling hours at 4:00PM. Pastor Jennifer Wolfwill officiate. Private graveside services will be held at the family’s convenience in the Jacob Miller Cemetery, Millerton.Memorial donations are directed to the Millerton Volunteer Fire Department or the Millerton United Methodist Church.
