Gisela (Lisa) Sempler
Age 89, of Pine City, NY, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Elmira, NY.
Lisa was born on March 27, 1934 in Ludwigshaffen, Germany, the daughter of the late Adam and Paula Wilhelm.
During World War II, the Wilhelm family survived three years of Allied bombing in a bunker near their home. Lisa immigrated to America in 1955 and became a citizen in 1974. She was a member of the Elmira Heights American Legion Auxiliary. Through the years, Lisa and Robert traveled the world over, they enjoyed cruise ships most of all. Lisa was grateful to her family for all their love and support during her two year illness. Her son, Brian, stayed in the room with her the final three nights of her life. Lisa will always be remembered as a loving friend, wife, and mother.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert; her two sons, Edward and Brian; her daughters, Michelle Galpin and Pamela Vandegrift; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her son, Dennis, who lost his life in a tragic accident in 2014; brother, Karl; and sister, Irene.
Friends and family are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Penna. Ave., Elmira, on Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Maple Grove Cemetery, Horseheads, NY.
