Martin, Gordon C. Age 85 years young of Daggett, PA was called home from the Robert Packer Hospital, 11/9/2013@2:50 pm, with his loving family and special friend Jim Barnes, by his side. Gordon was predeceased, by his parents Avis Friends Martin and Leonard Martin; sister, Harriet; nephew, David Jennings and brother-in-law, Charles Winterstein. Dear Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Pauline (Sadie) Martin; special daughter, Cheryl Ann; and son-in-law, Bill Ostrander; special grandson, Eugene (Becky) Fleming; great-grandchildren; Cody and Bayleigh, all of Daggett, PA: step- granddaughter and grandson Sherry (Tim) Negley and Cliff (Sara) Ostrander: great-grandchildren, Amanda, Josh and Kayla Negley, Brooke and William Ostrander of Groton, NY: sister, Jane and (Laverne) Jennings of Daggett, PA; sister-in-law, Irene Winterstein of Dagget, PA: brother-in-laws, Dick and (Bev) Smith of Daggett, PA, Bob and (Linda) Smith of Mansfield, PA; cousins and their families; many nieces and nephews and niece, Kathy (Guy) Thomas of MO and their families.Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY, Wednesday, November 13th, 2013 from 1:00PM to 3:00PM and 6:00PM to 8:00PM and again Thursday, November 14th from 12:00PM to 1:00PM. Funeral services celebrating Gordon’s life will follow the calling hours at 1:00PM, with graveside service following in the Alder Run Cemetery, Millerton, PA. Gordon starting working at a very young age, a work ethic that followed him throughout his life and gave him the knowledge to “cobble” fix anything.Gordon, with his wife, owned a well-known gravel and heavy equipment construction company, from 1950, retiring in 1995. Throughout his career he was a heavy equipment operator, truck driver, welder, mechanic, he also strip mined coal, and for years plowed heavy snow, with power shovel, bulldozers, trucks, graders, and loaders.Gordon and Pauline always worked side by side. He spent a great deal of time supporting his wife and daughter’s love of horses.He also enjoyed talking with anyone who came his way.He always had a story to tell, which he learned from his father-in-law. With a smile he always had a come back joke.He was a member of the Daggett Big Elm VolunteerFireDepartmentsince it began in 1949, being its' chief for many years; and was a longtime president of Tioga County Fireman’s Relief Assoc.Gordon was a member of the Daggett Methodist Church.After spotting and then purchasing a 1919 Model T Ford Car (Abigail) he was hooked on, and built a collection of antique cars, his oldest being a 1911. He was very proud of his cars, attending many parades, shows and car tours.A member of the following Antique Car clubs: Twin Tiers Vintage Car club for 43 years, where he met one of his closest friends, Bruce and Ginny Bruckner, Sullivan Trail Model A Ford Club, Keystone Cops Club.A Special Celebration of his life was held at the Hospital at the time of his passing by his loving family and special friend Jim Barnes and Hospital Chaplin.
