Harold H. "Hal" DeHaas Was born March 26, 1929 in Johnson City, NY, the son of the late William J. and Francis (May) De Haas. He went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the age of 87. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Wilda (Bement) De Haas, whom he married on November 3, 1984; sons: Brandon De Haas of Key West, FL; Andy (Sara) Seymour of Elmira, NY; grandchildren: Brandon "Zack" De Haas, Kelly Dalton, Justin Seymour, Shane Seymour, Cheyenne Seymour, Katie Seymour, Mike Seymour, David Seymour, Michele (James) Tolon, Joann Seymour, Brian Seymour, Terry Hunt and Jeffery Peters; sister: Emma Jane Tribe of Owego, NY; along with several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special friend, Ronald "Rip" Ripley; and his caretakers: Cece Lemoncelli, Toni Wheet and Dottie Travis. Hal was part owner and secretary/treasurer of Collins & Walton for many years, then worked side by side with his wife, Wilda who owned M & M Hots. He was very involved in Babe Ruth Baseball and loved working with the kids. He was a member of the Sheet Metals Union and RSES society. Hal was very active with ACTS and was their treasurer as well. He was a faithful member of the Fassett Baptist Church and was involved with various Food Cupboards; particularly in Fassett, Pine City and Lowman. He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corp, serving during WWII and was a drill Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. Hal was also a member of the F & AM Masonic Lodge # 95. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY on Friday, September 2, 2106 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. A Memorial Service will follow to celebrate Hal's life at 6 PM. His friends, Reverend Donald Rockwell and Reverend John Ford will both officiate. Hal's guestbook may be signed at www.olthof.com.
